Locally grown Tomkats Jazz Orchestra will open the Saturday lineup for the 2014 Clearwater Jazz Holiday. They will feature vocalist Katt Hefner.They are among the bands ushering in the evening’s headliner, Dr. John and the Nite Trippers from New Orleans.
The Tomkats have been a longtime favorite along the Pinellas Beaches, performing every Monday night for the past five years at the Blue Parrot Cafe on St. Pete Beach. Before that, the band played for more than a decade on Thursday nights at the Bilmar Beach Resort on Treasure Island.
For the past two years, the Tomkats have appeared at the Treasure Island Blues Festival and hosted this past New Year’s Eve party at the Coliseum in downtown St. Petersburg.
The 17-piece band has a longtime following of swing dancers and jazz fans. The Tomkats are proud to be among the performers for the 35th Anniversary Clearwater Jazz Holiday, scheduled Oct. 16-19, 2014. The world-class gathering features some of the greatest talents and fans of music and jazz. Other bands appearing at the Clearwater Jazz Holiday are Earth, Wind and Fire, Spyrogyra, and Trombone Shorty.
The event is held annually on the city’s downtown waterfront in beautiful Coachman Park.
